Astrology and Femininity

We live in a society that does not encourage women to embrace and showcase their femininity; we teach boys and girls that womanhood is inferior in many ways, including the attitude that if you do something wrong, you’re doing it “like a girl.”

We aren’t taught that femininity is divine, or that we should be grateful for our feminine nature. Additionally, many subjects and studies, such as astrology, numerology, or chakra balancing, are considered “pseudo-sciences,” and are frequently mocked by the general public.

We aren’t taught to believe in, or look for, the magic in life. However, those of us who have witnessed the effect that the planets have on our lives, know that there is an elemental magic, a cosmic divinity that is inherent in our connection to the heavenly bodies that inhabit the universe.

Our femininity is closely tied with the moon, and the planets above. Our astrological charts may influence us to seek our inner goddess, or shape the way we view our womanhood, as well as to illuminate our options for further development of our inner goddesses.

Contrary to what some believe, locating and focusing on the divine feminine is not about excluding the divine masculine—embracing and celebrating femininity has nothing to do with excluding or decreasing the value of masculine energy in our universe.

One could not exist without the other, and they are complimentary elements, with both being necessary for balance in life. However, masculinity has traditionally been celebrated and considered superior to femininity.

Emotions typically associated with femininity, such as vulnerability, sensitivity and expressiveness, have been considered negative, to be avoided by both sexes, but men in particular. In some ways, mainstream astrology has played into these stereotypes; however, through astrology, we can reclaim the divine feminine and bring forth its beauty to the world.

For some women, our connection to femininity comes naturally, and we seem to understand our role in the dance of the cosmic. For those of us who have a more difficult time embracing our womanhood, astrology can be a unique tool that allows us to see into ourselves, beyond the hurt of oppression that we’ve previously experienced.

Two planets, and their placements in your chart, in particular, may be very useful: the placements of the moon and Venus within your chart can open your eyes to your own inner feminine nature, allowing you to locate the balance and beauty within yourself.

The moon has long been known for its connection to the divine feminine, with its cycles mirroring our menstrual cycles in approximate length, and influencing our cycles in movement. The moon is mysterious, much like the nature of woman. Its tides are influential over myriad aspects of life; the moon is like our cosmic mother, guiding us and enriching our lives.

The moon is intuitive and emotional in nature, much like the essence of woman. Locating your moon placement within your chart can assist you in determining your feminine strengths and weaknesses, where to celebrate yourself and what aspects can be improved upon, to create a sense of well-being, as well as divinity.

Venus is the planet of love and beauty, named for the Goddess of Love herself. Your Venus placement determines how you receive, give and interpret love.

In addition to your Venus and moon placement, pay special attention to your sun sign. The feminine signs include Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, which are the earth and water signs of the zodiac.

The air and fire signs, Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are the masculine signs of astrology. If your sun sign falls under a masculine sign, you may have to work harder to unleash the femininity within.

By learning more about your chart, you will see where your natural inclinations align, and understand more about your position in the universe, as well as yourself and how you view gender.

For instance, a woman with a chart that includes an Aries moon with a Leo sun, may discover that her femininity has long been oppressed or underdeveloped. In this instance, it would be ideal to take some time to connect with earth and water, perhaps take a stroll in nature or a dip in the lake.

When you begin to recognize these aspects of your chart, you will see that there are many elements involved, and many ways to strike a balance and a compromise.

Balance is the key to life, and masculinity and femininity are equal, essential members of this scale. Embracing your femininity, through the use of astrology, will connect you to the hidden treasures of life. Our lives often become overrun by our daily stresses, tasks and social obligations.

Astrology is a wonderful tool to understand yourself, your feminine nature, as well as your place in the world.
