New Astrological Zodiac Signs:  The Serpent Bearer & You

Your zodiac sign may not actually be your zodiac sign anymore… Confusing, right? If you’re like most people then when you heard the news about a new astrological sign you probably scratched your head in bewilderment. Here’s a little more info to clear things up for you about the thirteen zodiac signs!

A Brief History

The 12 signs of the zodiac were designated to different parts of the year almost 3000 years ago. Since that time the Earth’s position in relation to the Sun has changed. As the Earth and Sun slowly move, the signs gradually change too.

This movement is normal and astrologers knew about the “new” astrological sign in advance. As astronomer Parke Kunkle says, “this is not new news… Astronomers have known about this since about 130 BC.”

Ophiucus – Just Another Constellation?

Ophiuchus is a constellation that is located behind the Sun in early December. This constellation – the serpent bearer – is located between the constellations Hercules and Scorpio. It has been described in poetry as far back as the year 10 AD. Back in that day people born under the constellation Ophiucus were thought to have an affinity for snakes and to be protected from poisons. Later, in the 4th century this sign became affiliated with doctors and healers.

The 13th Zodiac Sign

Ophiucus has been proposed as a 13th sign for the zodiac since the 1970’s. This 13 zodiac system has become relatively widespread in Japanese culture since the mid-90’s but never quite caught on here in the U.S.

If Ophiucus is your sign you’re truly earthed… not just grounded like a Taurus. You’re closely tied to the Earth’s natural rhythms and to source energy. Ophiucus people are used to being misunderstood since all the other zodiac signs have “fallen” further from the natural source which Ophiucus always maintained close ties to. You likely spend a lot of time in deep contemplation. You live by your own rules. You seek to hide beneath the surface and avoid detection by authority figures… yet you always seem to find yourself involved in anti-establishment activities.

So are you an Ophiucus?

Check out these alternative zodiac sign dates to find out what your Zodiac Sign would be in this “new” system:

Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16

Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11

Pisces: March 11- April 18

Aries: April 18- May 13

Taurus: May 13- June 21

Libra: Oct. 30- Nov. 23

Scorpio: Nov. 23- Nov. 29

Now, if you’re confused (which is understandable) or if your “new” zodiac sign doesn’t resonate with you… it all comes down to this – don’t worry about it! Because it has no bearing on your horoscope. Western horoscope is based on the seasons and this system hasn’t changed.
